Islam became a logical choice when I looked into the faults within Christianity, this spanned across the faith as a whole from the Bible to the role of Jesus in Christianity. First I shall address Jesus or Isa as he is referred to in the Quran. From a personal point of view I believe Jesus for example conducted miracles, I believe he was born of immaculate conception but this does not act as proof that he was the Son of God. God is the ultimate being, the omnipotent to suggest his power, his knowledge was manifest in a human being that takes away from God’s magnificence itself. Surely it is more logical to assume Jesus was inspired with a message from God, he was a messenger like those before him and not necessarily the Son of God.
Interestingly looking at the Bible itself we can see proofs that Jesus was not the Son of God as firstly his qualities are found in other people featured in the Bible.
HIS MIRACLES
Many claim Jesus’ divinity is proved by his miracles:
Jesus fed the 5000 with five loaves of bread and 2 fish
Elisha fed 100 people with 20 barley loaves and a few ears of corn (II Kings 4:44)
Jesus healed lepers
Elisha cured Naaman the leper (II Kings 5:14)
Jesus caused the blind to see
Elisha caused the blind to see (II Kings 6:17&20)
Jesus raised the dead
Elijah did the same (I Kings 17:22) so did Elisah (II Kings 4:34). Even Elishas bnes could restore the deaed(II Kings 13:21)
Jesus walked on water
Moses and his people crossed the dead sea (Exodus 14:22)
If Jesus was the son of God because he performed miracles then so was Elisha and Elijah and many other men in the Bible. Jesus like Elisha, and Elijah was capable of performing miracles because God willed it not because any of them were his incarnate son.
THE SON OF GOD
Other claim Jesus’ divinity is proved because he is referred to as the Son of God:
God called Israel (prophet Jacob) his son in Exodus 4:22-23
“And you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Israel is my first born son, and I say to you, ‘Let my son go that he may serve me’.
God calls Solomon his son in 2nd Samuel 8:13-14
“He (Solomon) shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father and he shall be my son”
God promised to make prophet David his son Psalms 89:26-27
“He shall cry unto me, ‘Thou art m father, my God, and the rock of my salvation’ Also I will make him m y first born, higher than the kings of the earth’
Angels are referred to as sons Job 1:6(see also Genesis 6:2 Deutronomy 14:1 and Hosea1:10)
‘ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and satan also came among them’
Some say Jesus was the only Begotten son- But God said to prophet David Psalms 2:7
“I will tell the decree of the Lord: He said to me, ‘You are my son, today I have begotten you’”
Also Jesus is not noted to have said or declared himself as the Son of God instead he called himself hte Son of Man e.g Luke 9:22. In Luke 4:41 he rejected being called the Son of God
“And demons also came out of many, crying, ‘You are the son of God!’ But he rebuked them, and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ’
In the four gospels Jesus is recorded as saying :
‘ Blessed are the peacemakers; they will be called Sons of God’ Matthew 5:9
As well as this interestingly Jesus adhered to many Islamic practices, practices that are also from the Jewish religion.
According to the old testament he was circumcised: Genesis 17:10
“And God said to Abraham, ‘As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you thoroughout their generations. This is my covenenat which you shall keep, between ,e ad you and your descendants fter you: Every male amooung you shall be circumcised . You shall be circumcised in the flesh of our foreskins and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you”
He did not eat pork: Leviticus 11:7-8
“And the swine, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud is unclean to you. Of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch; they are unclean to you”
He did not drink alcohol: Numbers 6:1-4
“And the Lord said to Moses, say to the people of Israel, when either a man or a woman makes a special vow of the Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord, he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink; he shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink, and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes fresh or dried. All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by grapevine, not even the seeds or skin”
Jesus prostrated (put his face to the ground ) in prayer: Matthew 26:39
“And going a little farther he fell o his face and prayed, ‘My father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will but as thou wilt”
He washed before he prayed: Exodus 40:30-1
“And he set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar ad put water in it for washing, with which Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet… as the Lord commanded Moses”
